# Privacy Policy for (M)adTech Radar
**Last Updated:** 2026-01-14
## 1. Overview
(M)adTech Radar ("the Extension") is designed to provide transparency into the advertising technology stack running on websites you visit. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
## 2. Data Collection and Usage
The Extension runs **locally on your device**. It analyzes the network requests and JavaScript environments of the pages you visit to identify ad tech vendors, bid responses, and configuration settings.
### What We Collect
- **Technical Data:** The Extension temporarily processes information about ad scripts, bid requests, and ad slots on the active tab relative to the page analysis.
- **Local Storage:** Configuration settings for the Extension are stored locally in your browser using `chrome.storage.local`.
### What We DO NOT Collect
- **No Personal Identification:** We do not collect names, emails, addresses, or phone numbers.
- **No Browsing History Transmission:** We do not transmit your browsing history to external servers. All analysis happens within the browser environment.
- **No Tracking:** We do not track your activity across the web for marketing purposes.
### Data Retention
- **Ephemeral Processing:** Data related to ad stacks (bids, vendors) is processed in real-time in the browser's memory and is discarded when you close the tab or the extension popup.
- **Local Settings:** User preferences are retained locally on your device until the extension is uninstalled or storage is cleared.
## 3. Data Transfer and Disclosure
- **No Sale of Data:** We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to outside parties.
- **No Third-Party Transfers:** No data collected by the extension is transferred to third parties.
## 4. Permissions
The Extension requires the following permissions to function:
- **`activeTab`:** Required to access and analyze the advertising technology stack (Prebid.js, Google Ad Manager, bid responses) on the currently active tab to display real-time bid information, CPM values, and ad configuration details in the DevTools panel and popup interface.
- **`<all_urls>` (Host Permissions):** Required to inject content scripts that detect and analyze ad tech libraries (Prebid.js instances, Google Ad Manager, managed wrappers like Freestar/Playwire) present on any website you visit. Ad tech configurations vary across different domains, so broad host access is necessary to provide consistent analysis across all sites where you need to debug advertising implementations.
- **`storage`:** Required to save your preferences locally in the browser, including debug mode settings, on-page overlay configurations (opacity, mode), panel layout preferences, and extension state. All data is stored locally using `chrome.storage.local` and never transmitted to external servers.
## 5. AI Functionality (Future)
The "local LLM" features referred to in our description utilize on-device or locally-hosted models. No data is sent to cloud-based AI providers unless explicitly configured by you (e.g., if you connect your own API key).
